Petroleum-Resistant Stranded Cables for Low-Voltage Control, Monitoring, and Safety
Windy City Wire petroleum-resistant stranded cables are designed for low-voltage control, signaling, and instrumentation in locations where gasoline, diesel, oils, and common hydrocarbons are present. Built around flexible stranded conductors with a tightly twisted 1-pair design (10–12 twists per foot), these cables deliver dependable signal integrity without shielding while standing up to petroleum exposure across a wide range of petroleum applications and industries.

14 AWG and 16 AWG 1-pair stranded copper options are available.
In addition to Red/Black twisted, available color combinations include: Yellow/Red, Black/Red, Black/White, Brown/White, Brown/Purple, Yellow/Brown, Yellow/Purple, Yellow/Blue, and Orange/Yellow.
Stranded copper. These petroleum-resistant cables use flexible stranded conductors (unshielded) for easier pulling and routing.
Windy City Wire manufactures and stocks SmartWire Petroleum in 1,000 ft as our standard length. This cable is also available in 2,500 ft lengths.
Our SmartWire Petroleum Wire is packaged in our patented RackPack carton for faster, safer pulls and reduced labor. Learn more about our RackPack: https://windycitywire.com/solutions/rackpack-overview
THHN: Thermoplastic High Heat-Resistant Nylon. PVC insulation with a nylon jacket, 600 V, typically 90°C dry. Common for building wire in conduit and raceways where durability and chemical resistance (including petroleum exposure) are needed.
TFFN: Thermoplastic Flexible Fixture Nylon. Similar materials but in a flexible, thinner-wall construction, 600 V, typically 90°C dry. Stranded for flexibility with a smaller OD—ideal for control panels, machine tools, and tight conduit runs.
TFN: Thermoplastic Fixture Nylon. 600 V, typically 90°C dry. Fixture wire similar to TFFN but generally less flexible (often solid or stiffer construction), used in lighting fixtures and control circuits where flexibility is less critical.
All three use a nylon jacket that enhances abrasion and chemical resistance; selection is typically driven by flexibility needs, bend radius, and space constraints. Always verify local code and application requirements.
